Homework is often a good indicator to the parent that a child requires assistance. We will assist with homework and assignments or projects that your child has difficulty with, however this will not be the focus of a tutoring session. A sequence of tutoring lessons is required to meet curriculum outcomes and therefore each lesson must cover necessary areas in order to progress. The tutor will therefore assist with parts of the homework that will be beneficial to maximise learning.
At Braniac Tutoring we understand that children are often given school homework and by also attending tutoring, there is a lot of scheduled learning. Therefore homework provided by Brainiac Tutoring is always designed to fit into your child's leisure time and tailored to your child's age and ability level. For example; a Kindergarten child may be asked to count how many glasses of water they drink after school to assist with counting. While a Year 6 student may be asked to watch BTN or other news program and write a short paragraph summarising the segment to assist with comprehension.
Yes, at Brainiac Tutoring your child can be tutored in all subjects. However our 45 minute lessons are generally designed to focus on either English or Mathematics. Other subjects will always be linked to content in English or Mathematics. For example, a history lesson may involve summarising and comprehension, while a geography lesson may involve creating a graph or a to-scale diagram. Therefore we typically cover English and Mathematics in separate sessions.
This will be dependent on your child's age and attention span. At Brainiac Tutoring we typically provide tutoring over two separate days rather than two back to back lessons. This is to ensure we can maximise learning and understanding without your child becoming fatigued, bored, fussy and irritable which hinders learning.
Unfortunately we don't offer pair or group tutoring sessions unless the children need assistance in the same specific subject area. We create lessons to fit your child's specific educational needs, therefore individual tutoring sessions are more suitable. One-on-one tutoring is preferred to make good use of the 45 minute session time.
